On Tuesday 28 March 2023, LC Packaging CEO Lucas Lammers signed the European Commission Sustainable Consumption Pledge on behalf of LC Packaging during the Consumer Summit in Brussels, Belgium. By taking the voluntary pledge, LC Packaging is committing to support sustainable consumption, beyond what is required by law. The initiative is part of the New Consumer Agenda, aimed at strengthening consumer resilience for sustainable recovery.
The Sustainable Consumption Pledge promotes voluntary cooperation with businesses to increase the sustainability of production and consumption, thereby complementing other regulatory actions. It speeds up businesses’ contributions to the European Green Deal and complements upcoming laws on sustainable production, consumption, and corporate governance. Lucas Lammers, CEO: “We decided to take a voluntary pledge to support sustainable consumption beyond just the necessary requirements. We know we have high ambitions related to reducing GHG emissions in our value chain and delivering the circular economy with our packaging products, but also feel that anything less is not enough. By taking the pledge we join a network of peers from whom we hope to gain knowledge and get inspired. Additionally, we give ourselves that extra push to achieve our goals, as well as we hope to set an example for others to do the same.”
Commissioner Didier Reynders explained: “We know that most Europeans feel a personal responsibility to act for the green transition. That’s also the reason why the EU is committed to making sustainability the core principle of our economy. In this transition, companies must play a significant role. Some have already decided to be pioneers by joining the EU’s sustainable consumption pledge. In this context, I congratulate the new pledging companies that are striving to offer more sustainable products and services. I welcome this first step and I look forward to welcoming many more companies during 2023 into this initiative, so we can boost further sustainable consumption in the EU.”
CEO Lucas Lammers was joined in Brussels by LC Packaging’s Head of Sustainability, Lotte Mastwijk. Lotte Mastwijk: “There are definitely enough challenges already as it is today. A first response is always to act short term. We feel more urgency because there is an issue that should be dealt with right away… But the truth is: most of these challenges are directly or indirectly linked to unsustainable consumption. We consume an ever-increasing amount of natural resources from the planet, causing environmental damage that has its effect on our business. In the short- and long-term. This is something we have recognised and why it is important to keep focus on sustainability issues.”
LC Packaging joins a number of companies that have taken the pledge, among which are Capgemini SE, Fnac Darty, L’Oréal Groupe, Philips and Renewed*.

LC Packaging has decided to embed sustainability into its core business and embrace its purpose: Contribute to a world without waste. The waste of valuable products during storage and transportation, and packaging waste. The company wants to work in such a way it does not limit the next generation in the choices they want to make or the resources they have available. By making it its mission to become a leader in sustainable packaging, LC Packaging believes it can make that impact.
