Corrugated board production facility Pacapime in Belgium is part of a project to create Europe’s largest mural. The mural will be painted on the 2,000 sqm wall of the factory that borders the river Zenne in Halle. The mural is an idea of the city of Halle in consultation with Pacapime to upgrade the towpath in a special way.
For years now, the city of Halle has wanted to beautify the waterfront area next to Pacapime by transforming it into an elongated park. Artists collective TREEPACK is responsible for creating the mural, which was inspired by our corrugated board production facility. It tells the story of children in an enchanted forest who find paper and cardboard with which they start to create origami animals. While doing so, they dream about a better future; a future where people and nature live in collaboration. A magic spell brings the animals to live. Children from the city of Halle modeled for the figures in the artwork.
The gigantic mural is slowly taking on form. The sketch has been almost fully coloured in after one week of hard work. In the upcoming two weeks, fine details will be applied to the artwork. The wall is 200m long and 10m high. To create the mural, up to 700 spray cans and 400 liters of paint are needed. Greenery will also be added, changing the view of this landmark every season.
Pacapime is a family owned business with whom LC Packaging shares 50/50 company shares. It is one of the largest producers of corrugated board. The company predominantly specialises in ready-to-use packaging for the food sector in an extensive variety of sizes with high definition Flexo printing, manufactured in their production facilities in Belgium and Hungary.
