GHG Inventory 2021: Impact on climate change

7 de Noviembre de 2022

LC Packaging has completed its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory 2021 as part of its ambition to reduce the emissions from its value chain with 50% by 2030, in line with a 1.5°C pathway. To find out the exact impact of LC Packaging’s operations on climate change, the company calculated all emissions related to its operations in 2021. The report presents the GHG inventory (scope 1, 2, 3) in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for base year 2021. Read the full report here.

The company aims to have its science-based emission reduction targets validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) by Q1 2023.

GHG Inventory conclusions

In total 226,138 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions were emitted in 2021 related to LC Packaging operations. By 2030, we want this number to be halved. From the GHG Report, it can be concluded that by far the most emissions in LC Packaging’s value chain are related to its products: the materials used, the production process, and the end-of-life scenario (total approx. 91%).

By making use of recycled content materials or renewable materials, by reusing packaging where possible and by making sure packaging after use is recyclable (preferably closed-loop) or compostable, the emissions in LC Packaging’s value chain can be reduced significantly. As well as by working together with production partners to reduce the emissions related to the production process. Something that the company is already addressing in its 2030 Ambition sustainability strategy.

Climate action

To mitigate the impact of climate change, the world has to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and eliminate all emissions by 2050. This is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone must contribute. That is exactly why LC Packaging aims to reduce the emissions in its value chain with 50% by 2030, compared to base year 2021, as part of its 2030 Ambition.
