LC Packaging Obtains QA-CER Certification for Recycled Material

12 Februari 2024

With outstanding results, LC Packaging has obtained the QA-CER certification for the use of recycled polypropylene (rPP) in Big Bags, used for non-food applications, also known as FIBCs. This European-level certification not only affirms adherence to stringent quality standards but also qualifies LC Packaging as an approved rPP-PCR supplier.

Sustainable Steps Forward

The global shift towards more sustainable packaging solutions, supported by legislative measures such as a Plastic Tax and Extended Producer Responsibility schemes, has resulted in a high demand for recycled content. Just as these local measures, these EU Directives legislations increasingly require proof of the claimed percentage and type of recycled content used. However, the actual application of recycled content in packaging is difficult to determine from the product itself. To prove the use of recycled polypropylene in its products, LC Packaging has applied for the QA-CER certification. The audit process involved a meticulous examination of traceability and quality management procedures, a critical aspect in ensuring compliance.

The QA-CER audit has covered the full scope of LC Packaging’s operations, including all offices, and encompassed a wide range of products with Post-Consumer and Post-Industrial recycled content. Dutch-Bangla Pack Ltd. (LC Packaging’s own production facility), and Sinobangla (one of the company’s long-term production partners) have also been audited. Both facilities in Bangladesh have successfully completed the audit, showcasing LC's commitment to quality. The company also aims to have their other production partners obtain this certification in the near future.

End-to-End Quality Assurance

A distinctive aspect of the QA-CER certification is its comprehensive coverage, extending beyond production facilities to encompass the entire chain of LC Packaging's offices. This end-to-end traceability and quality assurance not only enhances risk management for customers but also demonstrates to governmental bodies that the claimed percentage of recycled material in LC's packaging is verified. More information about the certification and its standards can be found at www.polycerteurope.eu.

In light of this certification, LC Packaging emphasises that quality is not merely a promise but an integral part of its corporate culture. The QA-CER certification goes beyond formal recognition; it affirms the ongoing dedication to high-quality products and processes, reflecting the company's core values. The certificates can be found here.

Benefits for Customers and Future Commitments

The QA-CER certification already brings significant advantages for customers in Belgium and Spain. It enables them to meet sustainability and recycling requirements while enjoying high-quality packaging solutions, and it plays a crucial role in their tax rebate eligibility.

Using this certification as a foundation, LC Packaging is now aiming to secure certifications for other plastic packaging products. By expanding the range of certified products, LC is setting a standard in sustainability and quality, reinforcing its commitment to achieving a circular economy. More information about this commitment can be found in LC Packaging’s 2030 Ambition.
