LC Packaging acquires a minority share of Bluepack, Denmark

7 September 2023

LC Packaging and Bluepack have signed an agreement to acquire a minority share of Bluepack, a Danish FIBC specialist. Bluepack brings a strong presence in Denmark and Sweden, complementing LC Packaging’s global market presence. In the year of LC Packaging’s 100th anniversary, while having offices in 16 countries worldwide, more than 1700 employees and with a revenue of 253 million euros in 2022, this agreement is an important step towards long-term partnerships and shorter lead times for customers in and around Scandinavia. According to the agreement, LC Packaging holds the first option to acquire the remainder of the Bluepack shares at a later date.

Shared focus on sustainability and innovation

With its origin going back to 1953 and with its head office in Odense, Denmark, Bluepack has a strong presence in Denmark and Sweden. The company also shares LC Packaging’s focus on sustainability. “This partnership makes great sense for LC Packaging, since it allows us to expand our activities in Scandinavia with regard to FIBCs (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers, also known as Big Bags) and agri packaging. Bluepack shares our focus on sustainability and innovation. We are confident that together, we are able to bring our customers even better solutions and services as they seek to reduce the carbon footprint of their packaging. Our 2023 Ecovadis Platinum CSR rating proves we are on the right track”, said Lucas Lammers, CEO of LC Packaging.

LC Packaging’s 2030 Ambition is focused on sustainable growth, developing its business model across the globe. LC Packaging has identified three global issues that need to be addressed and where our company can make a major impact: Working poverty (and therefore paying a living wage), waste and pollution, and climate change. LC Packaging’s purpose is to contribute to a world without waste.

According to Poul Strandmark, owner at Bluepack, this new international partnership has significant potential for both companies. “Similar to Bluepack, LC Packaging is a company with a rich history and strong values, and we are delighted to welcome LC Packaging as a partner. Together, our additional scale and expertise will bring significant benefits for both parties and for our customers.”

About Bluepack

In 1953, Dansk Sække Import A/S was established, which today is Bluepack A/S. At that time the agricultural customers made up a great deal of the market with a high demand for jute bags for grain. In the 1980s Bluepack A/S was one of the first companies that moved into Big Bags: a new type of packaging that could carry a large volume of many different bulk products. Today, Big Bags are a common type of packaging for many industries and also the most important product for BluepackIn 1999 Bluepack acquired its branch in Sweden.
