LC Packaging’s Head Office Sustainably Designed by Quadrant4

Next year, LC Packaging will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Looking back at its history, but also forward towards a sustainable future, LC Packaging's new office building had to be a sustainable building with a clear link to the past. To create a new head office and warehouse with more space for working together, logistics, and warehouse, LC Packaging partnered with architectural design agency Quadrant4.

When designing and building the new head office in Waddinxveen, the Netherlands, the aim was to design the most sustainable corporate building in the Netherlands to support LC Packaging’s ambition for a sustainable future. Together with Quadrant4, a BREEAM Outstanding certified head office and warehouse were realised.

BREEAM Outstanding

LC Packaging chose to measure its head office and warehouse to one of the highest sustainable quality standards: BREEAM Outstanding. BREEAM stands for Building Research Establisment Environmental Assessment Method. ‘Outstanding’ is the highest level that can be reached within BREEAM. “BREEAM Outstanding is an international sustainability label that you can assign to a property”, says Ben Kessing, Projectmanager at Quadrant4. To be eligible you have to achieve several aspects of the sustainability certification. Independent assessors evaluate whether sufficient sustainable performances (credits) have been achieved for awarding the certificate.

“To design a BREEAM Outstanding building, it is important to think carefully about its emissions, but also about the materials used. Are they produced in an energy neutral way and from a renewable source? Or does it come from a recycled source? The brick wall throughout the interior of the building for example, has been manufactured completely from recycled building materials.”

After a careful evaluation, LC Packaging’s head office and warehouse was awarded the BREEAM Outstanding certification on 2 August 2021.

A building for future generations to enjoy

The head office houses LC Packaging International and LC Packaging Netherlands. To come to the building that is now LC Packaging’s head office and warehouse, Quadrant4 organised workshops with the board and LC Packaging employees to find out what they wanted out of the new building.

Some of its sustainable features include daylight-controlled lighting, environmentally friendly material use, and 3,032 solar panels which generate 1,36 MWP of power: enough to supply 500 households of energy. So sustainably designed, that it was awarded a BREEAM Outstanding certification. Additionally, the building houses water-saving taps and sanitary ware and is completely gassless. The environment is taken care of with carefully separated waste streams and a positive contribution to biodiversity. Check out LC Packaging’s BREEAM Outstanding head office:
